As 2023 draws to a close I am thinking about the year ahead. I started this Substack in August. It has about 150 subscribers, which amazes me. I am grateful to everyone who has signed up.
My articles have been read thousands of times which is a great boost. You never know if anyone will read what you write after all.
I wasn’t sure what kind of material I wanted to publish here so I decided to just get started.
I am using Substack to explore the world around us. This means reading lots of interesting content from others but also making my contribution too. I find the act of writing helps focus the mind when you have to articulate complex ideas.
I intend to do more of this and I have a few articles lined up. I want to try shorter articles too. My own tendency is longer form but not everyone wants that.
I am constantly amazed at what governments and their lackeys get away with. Much of what they push has no basis in reality. I think Substack provides an important platform to explore these fictions and expose them. Comments help too especially since many mainstream outlets no longer allow them.
I have become mildly obsessed with the scale of unreality we see around us. Many obviously false claims are driving expensive and ruinous government policies no one gets to vote for. And the mainstream is uninterested in reporting any of this never mind hosting debates.
Talking of fiction, this is an area I’d like to explore more. I have already published one small story.
Many on the dissident right observe how the left has more or less captured every aspect of the media, including films, music and literature. This is not popular with the public and people are tired of being lectured about social justice issues.
Nonetheless the myths of tomorrow are being implanted into the heads of children by people who seem deranged. It may be unpopular but there are limited alternatives available.
Although I am told young men and teenage boys are discovering films from the 1960s and 70s and they are proving more popular than today’s fare. So the desire for non-woke material seems to be there.
Most people will not read longform essays. The majority get their ideas and talking points from the mainstream media. So fiction plays a role in how people perceive the world.
I have some short stories I intend to publish here on Substack. Some contemporary, others science fiction.
Something else I am considering is writing a novel and publishing it here, one chapter at a time. I know others have done this, publishing a little at a time for readers to enjoy and comment on. So that is underway. Stay tuned for updates.
I have other novels too I’m working on. I am exploring ways to publish these.
Finally, in 2024 my push goal is to make a film. Something low budget. Probably science fiction or at least speculative. I am working on some ideas now and putting together a budget. It would be a stretch but we will see.
I am developing a script for this. I have written a few short scripts before and it is something I’d like to do more of. Perhaps also collaborate with others, probably as a writer.
I think the arts are a great way to push back against the insanity we see around us. To offer an alternative view of the world delivered via fiction.
So who knows what the future will bring. But I am hopeful 2024 will be a good year. I think it will be for me and I hope for you too.
Happy new year!

Perhaps the real question is why can¡t conservatives break through. And I have to agree dispite endless streaming options most of what we watch is older shows.
Happy New Year Spiff! Looking forward to your new ramblings.
p.s. santa brought me a new transmogrifier for christmas. Wanna go for coffee sometime? I’m itching to try that new place on Moch-Ava. Just the name sounds great.
