I’m serializing a novel on Substack. I’ve had to rework it in order to make it a serial instead of just pasting chapters. Send me a DM. I’d be happy to cross promote with you if you like my work.
And I agree that it’s time to create a new world instead of waiting for the old to change. There are a lot of creators who are hungry to go. To your point I’m not sure either if Substack is the best for fiction but it could be a good place to start off from.
Anecdotally speaking, highly intelligent individuals seem to carry the creativity gene. This is expressed in myriad ways: writing, singing, artistry, entrepreneurship, sculpturing, and even construction. Literally anything that exists first in your imagination. I call it channeling your god spark which ultimately differentiates us from the animal kingdom. Common traits includes resentment of authority, reluctance to join a team, and a refusal to go along to get along. I would assume I’m not the first person to notice this. Creators must create. I’m excited for you spaceman. We can’t spend our lives arguing with stupid people.
Indeed. I agree, lets leave the stupids behind. There is also power in demonstrating something better than Woke or politicized work. We must also remember their MO is not really to create but to hijack. They seek out established worlds to conquer, like Middle Earth, but they can't create them.
I have ambient and instrumental music as well but haven’t done much in that vein for a while. It might be interesting to get involved in soundtrack work again which I have done in the past. Here is my instrumental works: https://soundcloud.com/newtropic
It would be great to make a music video or contribute some music to a film project … Anyway, just throwing it out there.
I’ll check out your fiction. It’s nice to hear from someone who actually wants to DO SOMETHING … make some art. I wish you all the best.
I will check out your work, so thanks for posting it here. I am a fan of ambient, and I too have often thought there are many partnerships out there waiting to happen. Soundtracks for small films are a good example.
And yes we must move beyond criticism, important thought it is.
My favorite films of recent vintage have been 'short story' films. Either science fiction (Looper, Edge of Tomorrow) or horror (Banshee Chapter) or sci-fi horror (Lunapolis, Alien Code) or horror-comedy (For Sale).
What I notice about these films is that they are well-constructed stories with consistent production values (especially continuity and editing).
A good story/concept can be completely destroyed by 'choppy' filmmaking that leaves you wondering 'How did we get to this scene?'
The nice thing about 'low budget' filmmaking is there just isn't mony for over-priced Negro performers.
Films are much closer to short stories and certainly novellas. Novels tend to be too long. The discipline needed to write a compelling short story tends to translate well into films.
Remember, Kevin Smith's breakout movie "Clerks" was shot in black and white and put on his credit card. It ain't the flash so much as the story...if you can write a compelling narrative, they will come.
Interesting projects these Spaceman....and I very much agree that,, in the long run, it will be art (particularly novels) that will outlive the woke virus. Don't know if you picked up on it but I wrote on this theme quite recently in this 'Art Will Keep Us Alive' post: https://grahamcunningham.substack.com/p/art-will-keep-us-alive

Will do. Thanks for the info. We can chat and at least compare notes.
I don't think Substack is ideal either. I think it works well for longform non-fiction, which is what it is designed for. But we have to do something.

Cool. I’ll check out your stories shortly. I recently wrote a short story: https://substack.com/home/post/p-144890124?r=huxmp&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
I too write nonfiction on my Substack - just musings but I guess my main love is music. You can find me here on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1QNPOZEaOVdWVNGhOzk8mk?si=8vcQLHqxQHGEvcTIJLfB7A or on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/jace-maxwell-173761951

I really like the idea of writing a serialized novel and figuring it out as you go. I may also try doing something like this and see where it goes.
Finally! Someone as crazy as me. I am going to get started soon. I will trail it with a few posts to give you plenty of time to run, lol.
We will be joining the ranks of the greats mind you. Dickens did it, as did Conan Doyle. Even James Joyce. Tom Wolfe too.
I have an outline, so I am not flying completely blind. But still, it is madness.
Yeah, I could use a change of pace and this sounds fun. Why not try it?
Exactly.

I agree. Plus audiences are exhausted with empty spectacles.
As a fellow creative, I'm here to support your work. When the book drops on Kindle, I will snap it up.
Thank you. I appreciate that.

That's a good place to start. I appreciate you taking the time to read it. I wish you well in this time of subatomic unraveling.

I will check it out. And good for you getting your work on Amazon. I hope to join you soon.
As for writing in public. Obvious madness. But I want to try it.
