Very clever and fun to read! Thank you! I am thinking the Executive Producer might be deciding soon that we are reaching that point where “no one can be saved” and the show gets pulled. Nuclear Armageddon generated by one of the subplots seems likely.

They have certainly been heavily into auditioning and introducing characters for the role of antichrist. Bill Gates is the current favorite.

Indeed. It is a worry. There is a streak of insanity at play that goes beyond power. Genuine madness.

And all this time I thought it was just me, this creaking old man screaming into his porridge, alone, in his fluffy robe, on his front porch waving to the worker bees racing to their disappearing jobs.

“Who greenlit that accent” - lol. You’re right - the writers have lost their minds.

Or they were perhaps never in their right minds to begin with.

As you often say, society isn't really steerable, it is only damageable. They can wreck a lot but build very little of worth. Who will polish the George Floyd statues a generation from now?

Oh and I don't say that you cannot steer society at all - but that there is a limit to what you can direct. It has obviously been steered for a century. As you can see, the plan is not going as planned, meaning that complexity brings limits of its own.

Yes, I suppose that makes more sense. You can influence it, you can knock it off course. But I am not sure something as complex as human society can be steered to a predefined destination.

There are hard limits. We live in a moment where these are exposed. Hence the hullabaloo.

Yes, like lack of money or housing.

If you ever have the time I’d go on about the nature of technique and the limits of control, but in a voice call and not here - as my thumbs are not up to it lol

Also, that extreme close-up of Harris is … creepy as hell. The dead eyes, I suppose.

I can't quite work out if it is fake or not. Possibly not. But it is disturbing. Although not as disturbing as a Harris presidency would be.

And thank you for subscribing.

Half-way down, I caught myself thinking: "Gee, I sure wish Pam wakes up and sees Bobby stepping out of the shower".

Well, picking a Swedish show as an example wouldn't have worked. Sad, since there actually were a couple of decent ones despite there only being state TV's two channels.

A kids' show called "Tårtan" (The Cake) was wonderfully absurdist and psychedelic yet still fun for kids. Three sailors go ashore and wind up trying to run a bakery. For some reason, there's also a gorilla living with them. Trailer:
