People in the past assimilated because they weren't given a hand out. They had to make it from the ground up, with help from family or other immigrants, because the government didn't have a welfare, food stamp, housing, and health care program.
The faster they would assimilate, the faster they succeeded. Besides the obvious fact that they entered legally, and were checked for disease and criminal records, the lack of government help makes this comparison to today's illegal aliens ridiculous.
Society had church and civic charities, letting people give help. Today, the government just takes your money, passes it through middle men and grifters, and leaves the receivers feeling entitled and the giver feeling robbed.
This is not a mistake, it's by design. There are forces, call them elitist, devious, or outright demonic, who want to knock down thriving societies to make them more compliant and dependent. Most of our Western government officials have been threatened, compromised, or bought off in some way.
At the very least, you CANNOT have open borders AND a welfare state. If you must have either, you must choose only one.
I don't think you can have open borders at all. But it is certainly suicidal to have a lax immigration policy and welfare.
There are many forces at work. I am sure many at ground level genuinely believe they are helping. But the West will collapse if we don't get a grip on mass migration.
No, it's crazy to have open borders, but it's insane to have both. "Useful idiots" are the people helping at ground level who really believe they are helping.
Hopefully, we will get back to being able to have honest and logical discussions, instead of gaslighting, disparaging, and idealistic instead of realistic conversations at upper levels.
The last thing governments want is honest discussion about the pros and cons of mass immigration. All the economic arguments in favour of it have been trashed.
Destroying cultures to boost GDP is obviously crazy. Obviously some immigration with appropriate screening can help. But that is not happening.
We should have taken Cloward and Piven more seriously back in the days of the 60's radicals. Everyone laughed, it seemed so ridiculous.
Those radicals stayed in school as perpetual students to keep out of Viet Nam. Then they went on to government and university jobs. We never saw it coming.
I remember Van Jones, who has actually mellowed out a lot, explaining "I'm willing to forgo the cheap satisfaction of the radical pose for deep satisfaction of the radical ends."
I said I was going to do it, and today, I did. I'm now a paid subscriber. I always look forward to your posts and find value in every one of them. This one is a particularly good take on the devastation unfettered and illegal immigration can and does impose on the West. Gradually, inexorably the invasions of people who have no concept of Western values, and couldn't enact them even if they did are being used as pawns by forces who desire the destruction of the West.
I quite agree and feel many more are now waking up to the fact. Many of these people are effectively trafficked into our countries for the strategic goals of others. They are not blameless, but we should recognize the bigger picture as you allude to.
And thank you for your subscription. Needless to say only do so if you can afford it and feel it gives you value. I am very grateful for you doing so, and am grateful really just for a subscription at all.
Thank you for your kind words too. I am never that sure what people think of these pieces. And we do have to confront these taboo subjects if we are to find solutions. We cannot go on as we are.
I hope your subscribers will continue to grow in numbers because your content is very much worth the time to read and ponder. Your voice is calm, reasoned and informed, speaking wisdom on subjects that affect all of us. I appreciate that you keep hyperbolic language to a minimum.
Smedley D. Butler, in his book "War is a Racket" said that war is started and funded by "creatures that run the show from the shadows". Indeed, the masses of illegals invading the west are the army of these profiteering creatures who are an "organized minority" as highlighted in Neema Parvini's book "The Populist Delusion".
Yes indeed. The immigrants are pawns in a bigger game. I have not yet read The Populist Delusion although it is on my list.
And thank you again for your kind words. I get angry and despondent just like everyone else. But I do try to make these articles rational and balanced.
A question that always comes to mind for me about the mass flooding of third world peoples into Western countries is... how are African migrants getting to America?
They are not coming in boats. They are not swimming over. They have to be flying - probably into South America, where they switch over to transport by bus.
But who is paying for such flights? Who is organizing the bus transports? I know there have been some exposes of religious charities and NGOs like HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) coordinating logistics, but there is a lot more to moving so many people such great distances, especially when the people on the move could never do it on their own.
This is true everywhere. Massive amounts of help. Sophisticated networks that are well financed. It is not just a handful of misguided charities.
We are being targeted and with the media captured none of it reaches the public. But the scale of immigration is now so visible ordinary people are noticing. How could they not? Throw in a few riots with the foreign flags etc. and it becomes a PR nightmare. Too much hostile diversity that is too visible.
Different peoples do not mix. When they are forced to it causes tension. We are now in the tension phase and it may not be survivable given how many migrants are heading West.
I really like this article, but I have one critique. While you excellently lay out how immigration is bad, you never really get around to explaining why mass deportations would actually happen. You have one paragraph at the end stating that many normal people are increasingly aware of how bad the situation is. This does not mean that mass deportations will actually happen. There are a lot of entrenched interests that want to continue the status quo, so there is a large uphill battle to be fought - one that doesn't have guarantees.
I agree. But it begins with the attitude of the public. My main argument was about the image the riots present. One of deep ingratitude. If anything will offend Americans it is this.
As for how it will happen? I am not sure. I just know something has to break through the constant propaganda about how inward migration is always good or beneficial to the host nation. Rioting tends to undermine that message. And that is an important change in attitude we haven't seen in a long time.
I've always been generally in favor of immigration, but what's happened in recent years is ludicrous. America can not absorb all the world's poor. Advocates of unrestricted immigration act as if we don't have enough poor people in the country today.
Open borders allow corrupt, third-world oligarchies to export their poverty to us.
And crime. Even if we decide we want to let most migrants in, could we maybe agree that we don't want to import any more rapists? Like, if you've been convicted of that, maybe you can't come here? I think we have enough homegrown rapists; I don't think we need any more. Could we get the feminists on board with this one?
It is completely out of control all over the West. Not only must it stop but many will have to be sent home as they are incompatible.
The feminists are lost. They hate white men and generally view immigration as a way to dislodge them. They are indifferent to the rapes and have been challenged on this multiple times in many different countries.
Other than seeking new Democratic voters (and increasingly Hispanics are voting Republican) it’s not clear to me exactly why the Biden administration decided that it was a good idea to open our borders to millions of unskilled, uneducated people. It ended up costing the Democrats the 2024 election. Allowing a relative small number of the well educated in each year is probability a good idea.
This was one of the most disastrous policies the country has seen in my long lifetime. Importing millions of people who will work for next to nothing just to be here undermines the wages of our working class and exacerbates our national housing crisis when we can’t house our own citizens. It consumed billions of our tax dollars which could have been put to better use.
The age of mass migration is over. People cannot overpopulate their home country and just expect to move to greener pastures. There are no more green pastures. They need to voluntarily reduce their country's population to an environmentally sustainable level, stay there and work to improve their living conditions.
I also don’t understand those who say that we should not deport the majority of these interlopers. They violated our laws and continue to violate them. No one believes that they have a right to visit Paris as a tourist, rent an apartment and live their life there without the permission of the French people and no one would argue that the French have no right to kick their sorry asses out of that country. Why do the same rules not apply to the United States? They clearly do.
It is precisely this common sense view that most people hold. A very thin layer of society, no more than ten percent, see multiculturalism as a goal in itself. Everything we know about large scale migration negates this idea. The best you can hope for is avoiding most of the violence. History is quite clear on the matter.
Small numbers of skilled migrants who are able to assimilate can work. But as you allude to, why bother? Most Western nations have skilled workers on the dole. We don't need to import anyone. The future promises fewer jobs thanks to AI and robotics anyway.
Remember, academia is committed to the destruction of the West. So I suspect much of it is driven by hatred. A kind of cultural marxism in my my view. Pure resentment.
Agreed. And the solution that emerged was national borders. Even very similar peoples could not get along. I fear the university graduates entranced with open borders and equality will be harmed first. They seem to believe their rhetoric about the brotherhood of man.
Your essay directs attention to a number of things. One takeaway is that the mind of the hostile elite is literally insane. Connected to this is the fact that the behavior of the elite, and not just the elite, is becoming increasingly more maladaptive. Case in point (though it might at first glance seem unrelated):
"We understand liberal democracies are managed through narratives."
And what is a "narrative" but an explanation. Everything human beings do is managed by their explanatory behavior, not just liberal democracies, but everything, simply because life without explanation is, for human beings, inconceivable. And no explanation can ever be perfect and final. And now we're back to why the hostile elite's behavior is so transparently maladaptive.
Because an explanation can only be adaptationally useful if it is open-ended and unresolved, top to bottom, or theory and data. But the elite has closed off both sides. So everything is top-down. At no time, in no place, is the elite's explanation of the world open to feedback and correction. On the contrary, the hostile elite uses its power to aggressively prohibit any and all feedback and correction to its top-down system - and feedback and correction is the two-fold source of human adaptability. This is the explanation for why the hostile elite is the single greatest threat to human survival the world has ever known. Making treason against the hostile elite loyalty to humanity.
I do agree our rulers have closed themselves off from feedback that could help them correct course. I also think they are incestuous and very little fresh blood joins their ranks. Power after all seeks to protect itself.
By all accounts Soros's son who now runs the family empire is a drunk and nothing special. A very serious problem when an elite become a tired aristocracy.
I think they also mix only with each other so that is another aspect where bad ideas never get challenged. A casual jaunt through anthropology literature would have explained how mass migration would likely end, for example.
I agree. I tend to refer to the serious people as globalist elites. I compare these to local elites or minions. The ones further down the foodchain tend to believe every word, although there will be psychopaths within their ranks too who don't care.
Further up, where the real power is? They don't believe a word of any of it. Climate, diversity, the equality of women etc. All just manipulations to trigger the midwits.
A month or so ago, someone replied to an illegal immigration post by saying, "Who else is going to pick your lettuce and fruit?"
So, with the riots going on in Cali, I'm forced to ask, "Why aren't these young men out doing the jobs "Americans" don't want to do? Could it because they don't want to do them either?
Instead of working, they are out waving a foreign flag and destroying private property.
The series of arguments about the work Americans won't do leaves out the final clause. Work Americans won't do for the money being offered. Same all over the West. Raise the wages and plenty will apply.
Employers are quite happy to import these people because it lowers wages and the costs are offset onto taxpayers. An absurd state of affairs.
It is stunning to consider that this could be all staged - not that it might not grow into something truly chaotic, but LA is after all the home of Hollywood... the source of so many of our ills!!
I was in Bangkok during the red shirt civil unrest back around...oh...2010 maybe.
This was a genuine insurrection with riots, destruction etc just like LA, but also included some grenades and gunfire. So a miniature war on the streets with a few people killed.
The thing is, Bangkok, like LA, is a big city. Where we were, everything was fine, and if we hadn't seen it on live TV we would never have known that revolutionaries were shooting it out with the army in the same city.
Most of the people in LA would be unlikely to be aware of rioting and destruction happening 20 miles away on the other side of the city. This doesn't mean its not happening, or is staged.
Yes, of course. Good point. We are also in an era of AI generated videos and CGI, not to mention widespread manipulation. Hard to know what to believe.
Canada is in the midst of a transition. A somewhat lopsided and painful one. There is still much Trump hate, still much America hate as has been programmed into us. Smugness that Canadians are superior as an armour against the reality that we are most decidely not. Yet, something picks away at us.
We are beginning to hate the foreigners. All the rest of the leftist babble is still intact, but there's a hatred growing. They are doing the same as they do everywhere, as they have done for thousands of years. Rape, pillage, assault, shit everywhere, scam, take over culture and businesses and destroy them. And it's a bit obvious. When there was big money behind the invasion, and there is much less big money, the situation could be managed, the brainwashing could be continued. It's obvious that is no longer the case.
That anger is a slow boil, typical of us. But it's also the wedge that breaks the rest of the programming.
It takes a lot of energy to override natural instincts. The propaganda works, but only while it is being actively broadcast. What happens when the money runs out?
A lot of people write off Canada. Britain and Australia too. But we are all cut from the same cloth. Our threshold for anger is high, and this is mistaken as weakness.
An interesting point. It appears there is a slow rollout. The media gets more ridiculous daily. Inevitably, that breaks through. There are various forms of propaganda, not all of them media. Some are subliminal, some chemical, some frequency. A main one is of course, schools. Get them while their young, and they are yours forever. Very hard to break.
Sophisticated methods can be used, but often the old ways work best. One such way, a soft oppression, is simple repetition, used during covid. BY endlessly repeating certain words, the brain begins to ignore them as background noise. This bypasses the conscious brain. And we get programmed. It was always covid and death counts. The absurd rules were another. They did not make sense. It breaks the brain.
Nor is this propaganda new. It’s been used in various forms for centuries.
I would argue their weakest point is their break from reality. Many of the things they use propaganda to sell the idea to us will fail anyway. Net Zero and mass immigration are famous examples. They will end in strife.
You are right about the schools. That is a worry. But then again, when the kids grow up they will still have to navigate real life which is not kind to the confused.
They’ll probably hang onto their phones for awhile as an escape but that will eventually run out. I’ve noticed a sub group within Gen Z. The ones who eschew much of the modern ideals, or rather programming and in some cases, the technology. A desire to return to basics. I’m hoping for this to grow.
We are witnessing the effects of a wholly deliberate and engineered takedown of the West. The globalist, technocratic, one-worlders can never abide orderly, functional and prosperous societies and nations because such nations don’t need them and are likely capable of resisting and throwing them out. They are building a modern Tower of Babel and the West is enemy number one.
I suspect their plan is something like import people who will accept much lower standards of living and will consent to being ruled by authoritarian methods.
I suspect this plan will fail. But I believe that it the basic goal. Dilute the problem countries then rule them harder. The civil unrest will be used to usher in totalitarian controls.
George Soros has stated publicly the biggest impediment to his plans is a functioning United States.
We had ethnic enclaves long before the 65 immigration law. Places like the Bronx were divided up into ethnic villages. If you were young and Irish, you didn't go into the Italian enclave unless you wanted an ass kicking.
We had German language newspapers in this country until Woodrow Wilson cracked down on all things German in World War I. And complaints about German immigration go back to Benjamin Franklin.
The term "paddy wagon" is a racist reference to the Irish. Irish assimilation didn't go smoothly.
I agree, but that reinforces the notion the current open borders policy will be disastrous. Most of the Irish spoke English and were similar to the founding stock and still took generations to get there. Many emigrating now are strikingly alien. The world cannot assimilate into Western cultures.
Indeed. The actions don't match the rhetoric. I'm interested in what effect things like the riots have on normal people though. Will attitudes harden? I predict they will and this may trigger changes further down the line.
Tough question. My cosmopolitan libertarian friends are posting all sorts of Sad Stories and stories claiming that the violence was provoked. Don't know if the stories are true, but they are being pushed by the legacy media.
Yes of course. I think many are still plugged in. But trust in traditional media is in decline so they won't hold sway forever. And you can excuse some bad behaviour, but not forever. Wanton destruction shows ingratitude, and that gets many people riled.
America's culture is Northern European. It is unusual to see that kind of behaviour in Northern Europeans or North East Asians in particular. Exceptions exist, but it emotionally charged destructive behaviour is more common in some peoples than others.
People in the past assimilated because they weren't given a hand out. They had to make it from the ground up, with help from family or other immigrants, because the government didn't have a welfare, food stamp, housing, and health care program.

Destroying cultures to boost GDP is obviously crazy. Obviously some immigration with appropriate screening can help. But that is not happening.
It doesn't seem like it can end well.

Modern feminists largely denounce Paglia. They are crazy. She did say that if women had been in charge we'd all be living in mud huts 😎

"They seem to believe their rhetoric about the brotherhood of man."
Exactly! And in spite of all of the evidence to the contrary.
But, really, I don't think the hostile elite believes it at all. Their useful idiots, definitely.
Either way, the rhetoric is to the masses what a sheepherder is to sheep.

Perhaps. They are more likely than scalping laws mind you.
This is somewhat off-topic, but I'm sure most reading this substack are aware of the LA riots, so I wanted to share it.

An interesting comment. I agree. I wrote about this here:
https://abysspostcard.substack.com/p/dead-mans-brake
I see this too. Time will tell.
Their plan was also to have interbreeding occur to create a more malleable population. This was shortsighted in their genius plan.
I am not sure this is the case. It is certainly not supported by the evidence. Race mixing is in fact rare even among populations that get along.
Which was my point. It was based on a few videos of highly placed people saying this was the intention, to race mix.
Ah I see. Then they really are clueless.
The melting pot mentality is fantasy.
I agree. It's time to turn alien immigration down to a trickle for a half century at least.
And deport more than just the criminal aliens, which is what Trump is doing -- and thus deporting far fewer than Clinton.
Believe that when its legally verified fact**
Indeed. But times are changing.
"The conclusion is obvious. This is not how Americans behave. Destructive behaviour of this type is unmistakably foreign in nature."
Counter-point: Antifa.
Hardly ordinary Americans. A very dysfunctional group of people who abuse societal norms in fact. That is why they seem so shocking at times.
So ordinary Americans do not engage in behavior like this. Do ordinary Mexcans?
It seems to be Mexicans standing on the cars.
America's culture is Northern European. It is unusual to see that kind of behaviour in Northern Europeans or North East Asians in particular. Exceptions exist, but it emotionally charged destructive behaviour is more common in some peoples than others.
Yeah, mass deportations are coming, just after that Iran peace deal 😅😅😅
Maybe take a little longer than that. But a few more riots with foreigners trashing the US might speed them along.
