I didn't know this was a saying, but it's not surprising. I've noticed this more and more lately.
Definitely hear it in Britain. The act of articulating a problem well helps you arrange the knowledge in your head nudging you closer to a solution.
Very similar to ‘the best way of understanding something is to try to explain it or teach it to someone else.’
That is the idea. Force myself to think it through.
